Background:
Baltasound Junior High is the most northerly school in Britain. It has the use of the games hall and swimming pool in the local leisure centre. Being a relatively small school in an isolated location, pupils are encouraged to take part in sports competitions against other schools as often as possible to meet children of their own age. Regular fixtures include football, hockey, netball, volleyball and athletics. Extra-curricular activities also include pottery, computing and chess. Pupils may learn woodwind, fiddle, piano, accordian or drums and participate in school and community ensembles. The school concert gives budding musicians an opportunity to display their skills each year. Pupils also make educational trips within and outwith the island. 'We aim to promote 'partnership in education' between parents, pupils and staff.' .
